Attendees at September 04 EventAnthony RangecroftI came to the FOSS Initiative day to gain some insight into the voluntary and community sector as I've been working with SMEs and corporates. I work with clients to design and try out more efficient ways of working, both procedural and technical. I use model based process re-engineering and prototyping on a Linux or Unix platform as this tends to be quick and reliable, relatively speaking of course ;-) AnthonyRangecroft at f2s.com 01737 223925Tea Kharitonashvili (Taya)Taya works for Open Society - Georgia Foundation as an eRider (ICT Consultant). Event OrganisationThe September event is being organised by a group of volunteers involved with the VCS both as freelancers, and through working for variety of organisations such as LASA, IT4Communities, Contact a Family, and Shelter. Following informal discussions, and the involvement by several of the group in the Social Software initiative since 2002, it was felt that the time was right to organise an event demonstrating some Open Source projects, and gathering together interested stakeholders. NOTE: Whilst many participants may share an interest in the wider issues relating to "Openness" in general - e.g. "Open Society", this event will be focused on Open Source as a potential benefit to Voluntary & Community Sector technology, although there is almost certainly going to be discussion around some of the non-technology issues on the day.Changed lines 5-9 from:
Adrian De Luca (organiser) - Adrian has a research background and has been working as a research consultant for a number of organisations over the past couple of years looking at ICT issues for VCS organisations. He has recently taken up a post as Fundraising Research Manager at Shelter.
Dan McQuillan (organiser) - Dr. Dan McQuillan is the senior consultant in Lasa's Information Systems Team, specialising in the innovative application of technology to the needs of the non-profit sector. He has set up the Multikulti project, a pioneering multilingual website which delivers advice information in 12 languages, in collaboration with Bengali, Farsi & Urdu open source projects. Outside of work, Dan was a co-founder of the volunteer run 'Social Software' project which aims to bring the benefits of open source software to the voluntary & community sector.\\ to:

Ryan Cartwright Contact a Family (speaking/demonstrating organisation) Ryan is IT Manager at Contact a Family where they have been using OSS at various levels for over three years. Although reluctant to call himself an expert, Ryan has realised that he has levels of experience in using OSS in a charity that are worth sharing. Contact a Family's particular success stories are in avoiding the use of Exchange and implementing a Web based secure database at a fraction of the proposed budget - when proprietary solutions came in at twice the same budget! Ryan is keen to demonstrate to others charities that OSS saves you both money and hair loss. Ryan also contributes on a personal level to the OSS community with software and documentation.\\
