Event Summary

Event on Wednesday 15 September 2004, City Temple Conference Centre, London

An inaugural event, that took place in London on 15 September 2004 was very well received, attracting around 50 attendees who came to listen to and experience a selection of the 20 speakers and demonstrations.

The event looked at the practical uses of Open Source & Free Software (OSS) and its synergy with the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) and was an informal, peer-to-peer networking event in the co-operative spirit of open source: a many-to-many exchange of experiences, curiosity and enthusiasm.

Discussions were introduced by people who have already piloted open source & free software solutions in the Voluntary & Community Sector. There was also a chance for hands-on demos of open source systems. Solution providers were also in attendance providing opportunities to connect with companies who support open source solutions.

The organisers would like to especially thank City Temple Conference Centre? for providing us with an additional larger room and additional equipment when our original discussion room quickly proved too small!

The talks were well delivered and generated a lot of good discussion.

Many informal discussions took place throughout the day as well extensive networking (including Wifi eventually!). The demonstrations also proved very popular with many taking ideas back to their respective organisations.
