I'm a circuit rider with Bristol IT Co-Op, we do "pay-as you-go" IT support for Voluntary organisations in Bristol, three development trusts with 30+ staff, 2 of whom are New Deal regeneration initiatives and the third working in the BME sector. We also support 5/10 smaller organisations. Getting organisations to migrate to open source platforms without sounding like some fanatic is probably our biggest difficulty. A slow process of gradual penetration is the tack we take, offering Open Source solutions to particular problems and trying to link it to contracted support and development work so we can use the tools we're most comfortable with for the job in hand.

I'm also heavily involved with Bristol Wireless (of bright yellow tshirt fame) with a particular interest in education and training, so I'll be following any initiatives in the development of training course materials closely.

I am interested in Acrobat and PDF, although I realise that Acrobat is too expensive to be used widely. I have put more on this in the WikiSandbox?. I thought it was a free space, not for tests as I now realise. However, it has been rescued for the Feedback page http://www.lasa.org.uk/it/penguin/pmwiki.php/Main/FeedBack. Please amend or add. There are open source choices for PDF, including server software. SVG (scaleable vector graphics)could be a new direction for many purposes. I am based in Exeter, near Life Bytes internet cafe on Paris Street.

I came to the FOSS Initiative day to gain some insight into the voluntary and community sector as I've been working with SMEs and corporates.

I work with clients to design and try out more efficient ways of working, both procedural and technical.
